Getting There and Parking

To reach Lizard’s Mouth, take Highway 154 from Santa Barbara and turn left onto West Camino Cielo. Continue for about 3.5 miles, pass the water tower on your right which also have an amazing view of Santa Barbara, until you spot the small wooden sign for the trailhead. Parking is available along the road, with the trailhead located near 6325 West Camino Cielo. Be mindful of the minimal signage and look for other parked cars as a clue. The trailhead is not well-marked, so using a GPS can be helpful (6325 West Camino Cielo, Santa Barbara, CA 93105).

The Hike

The hike to Lizard’s Mouth is short and accessible, making it ideal for a quick outdoor adventure. The trail is approximately 0.5 miles round trip with only about 50 feet of elevation gain, making it suitable for hikers of all ages and skill levels. The path can be a bit rocky and uneven, so sturdy footwear is recommended. The main attraction is the large sandstone outcropping, perfect for scrambling and exploring the various caves and crevices formed by wind and water erosion.
